Why do I like to come to Mikkeli?

I return to Mikkeli to teach because of the unique blend of an international program and the peaceful small-town atmosphere. The diverse student body and global perspective create a stimulating environment for learning and exchange. Mikkeli’s quiet life provides a perfect setting to focus on meaningful interactions and academic growth, making it a truly rewarding experience for both teaching and living.

I enjoy teaching in Mikkeli because of the strong sense of community pedagogy that has been developing here for the past 25 years. Objectives are well defined and regularly updated in a collaborative fashion, and from a global perspective. In this intensive format, we get to know the students because we spend some intense hours with them. There is a definite upbeat Mikkeli spirit. Besides, Mikkeli offers gorgeous landscapes. Who would not be positively affected by the sublime environment of lakes, forests, and natural beauty in all seasons?

I love coming back to Mikkeli every year because the students make it such a great experience. I love the course I get to teach, and I love how invested the students are in learning and applying what we do in class. It’s such a great environment, and the fast-paced timeline makes it fly by every time!

Teaching Introduction to Marketing

Coming to the Aalto IB program in Mikkeli has been extremely exciting and a rewarding experience for the past 8 years. I truly enjoy working with Aalto students and sharing the marketing content with them. In addition, it is quite enjoyable living in Mikkeli, visiting amazing lakes and forest areas, dealing with hospitable Aalto University staff, ease of daily commute – biking to get around – no car is needed! – and wonderful features of Finnish public transportation that make getting around the country a breeze.

Three things come to mind – the place, the students, and the support services. I find Mikkeli to be a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the San Francisco Bay Area where I reside. I love being able to walk and bike close to nature. The students are curious and eager to learn. The Director and staff go out of their way to provide academic support and excellent hospitality.
